Trihalomethanes (THMs) are created from a chemical reaction between water and the chlorine used to disinfect it. You should not drink water with a high level of THMs. This article explains some of the health risks of trihalomethanes, including reproductive problems and cancer.
Unfortunately, drinking water in Northwest Oklahoma is sometimes treated with chlorination, leading to high trihalomethane levels (THMs). This Facebook post by Erin Brockovich also provides some details on water chlorination in TX.
The bad news is that you definitely do not want to be drinking THMs.

I love my new water softener. My son has eczema; we have tried creams, lotion all of which were very expensive. I was told by a friend that a water softener may help.
